Newly elected Central Bougainville MP Jimmy Miringtoro received a warm welcome from Our Party members, led by Rainbo Paita, at Jackson’s Domestic Terminal tonight.

Miringtoro was declared the winner of the Central Bougainville by-election on Sunday, June 15, securing a total of 7,868 votes. He won over his closest rival, Pangu Party candidate Lohial Nuau, who received 4,168 votes.

With Miringtoro’s inclusion, Our Party now boasts 15 Members of Parliament, making it the second-largest political party in the country, trailing only Prime Minister James Marape’s Pangu Party.

Mr Miringtoro is not new to the public service. He was first elected to the 8th National Parliament in the 2012 General Elections for the same seat; appointed Minister for Information and Communications Technology.

He lost his seat to the late MP Simon Dumarinu in the 2017 general election.

His official swearing in will be announced soon..
